The world’s biggest and brightest flower show, the Chelsea Flower Show, is returning for another spectacular event in 2024. Taking place from the 21st to the 25th of May, this prestigious show will once again transform the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea into a stunning display of horticultural artistry.
The Chelsea Flower Show, also referred to as the Royal Horticultural Society Show, is one of the most prestigious flower and garden shows in the world, drawing attention from admirers globally. It has a rich history dating back to its first event in 1913, now taking place annually in May at the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, where it all began.
The origins of the Chelsea Flower Show can be traced back to the Great Spring Show, which was first held in 1827 by the RHS in Chiswick. The event moved locations several times before settling at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The show was initially known for showcasing the latest horticultural innovations and garden designs.
Throughout its history, the Chelsea Flower Show has become known for its high-quality exhibits, innovative garden designs and for attracting notable attendees, including members of the British royal family. The show has also been a platform for introducing new plant varieties and gardening trends.
Today, the Chelsea Flower Show 2024 remains a major event in the gardening world, attracting exhibitors and visitors from around the globe. It serves as an opportunity for garden designers, nurseries, and plant breeders to showcase their work and for gardening enthusiasts to enjoy and be inspired by the latest in garden design and horticulture.
Whether you have successfully secured your tickets or haven’t been able to get access to the main show, the atmosphere in Chelsea becomes floral on every street. Chelsea in Bloom celebrates the wonderful show with businesses creating displays and running events during the lead up and throughout. These shop window displays start at Sloane Street, go through Sloane Square, up Kind’s Road and finish at Duke of York Square and Pavillion Road.
For 2024, the theme is Floral Feasts, celebrating both Chelsea’s botanical heritage and fine food available. This is a competition between all those who participate with winners announced on the 21st of May by expert judges and people’s choice on the 24th of May.
